COLOMBO (News 1st): A 40-year-old woman died in Weligampitiya, Ja-Ela following a drive-by shooting. The victim died upon admission to the Ragama Hospital. According to the Police, the unknown gunmen travelling in a car opened fire at another car, in which the victim was travelling. Police say that the victim might not have been the intended target. The STF claims that the shooting may have taken place over a dispute on an earth extraction racket.
Reports say that the 8-year-old daughter of the victim was also inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but was unharmed.
The Police Special Task Force and several police teams have been deployed to investigate the incident using footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area
