Not true, I was looking to buy a 55" OLED 4K tv, it costs ~300,000 overseas and they sell the same for 700,000 in Sri Lanka.

I don't think the price-tag justifies the warranty. Better to try something with international warranty instead.

Anything under 55" is exempt from taxes iirc.

It's not tax exempt... It's offset against your allowance category depending on the duration of the stay. He only visited Qatar for a short time as mentioned on a different thread by him.

Oh, I guess if you stayed there for some time and are coming back then you don't have to pay any tax on it as long as it's under 55".

Am not too sure how it works though, the duration of the stay and such.

I believe the rate exceeds 30%...plus a myriad of other levies. Why don't to send it with your sister's family?
You might have to pay the duties...but depends on the customs officer. He might help you out, but cannot be guaranteed.
Also the customs have a valuation on the TV... not the amount you would state you paid for it.
You can certainly bring it in.. but might have to pay the correct duty minus $125.00 (assuming that you have no other dutiable items)

At least can't your sister contact someone who is returning from Doha after a long time - travelling with you. Then get that person to declare it. There are so many working over there.

That sounds like a plan. Follow that advice if you want to exempt tax. Make sure you know the person well though.
