The best course of action would be removing the post with infected software and keeping the thread closed - that way, users will be compelled to scan everything they download from EK before opening/installing. Adding a malware warning to the opening post would help too.

Some common sense is required when dealing with pirated software, closing or deleting threads won't do anything. It'll just turn to a game of whack-a-mole between forum members and administrators

You can't cater foolishness of users but it is unethical just leaving people danger if you can do simple actions to avoid.
If you found something wrong, first action is to be removing the infected part. At least INFORMING THE DANGER in first post is the effective way of passing message. posting last comment and closing doesn't make much sense. Common sense is atleast knowing people read from the first comment.

Yep, we already know which software had the infected file, that post should be deleted

Yeah but removing the thread altogether doesn't make much sense either, making an example out of it seems more logical

Yes..and the only solution is to revert back to an older version of these files. That's why in a Corporate or enterprise environments who share Google drives among many use separate backup plans in place.

he lived here for 7 months and shared lots of software. Seems he is surfing every corner in the web

Always a keep a backup. That will save you time and pain when you have a situation like this. My 17 year old son does this regularly because he downloads various games and cracks etc. He keeps a compressed Macrium Reflect image - without much effort he restores his whole primary SSD in no time.

Shit, that's frightening. All my backups are linked to my computer if it encrypts all the drives I will be gone. What is the solution, I can backup the C drive to an external drive but how do you backup all of Google and One drive?

It can happen if you use Google Drive Sync...because if files are infected in your computer then they will Sync to G-drive and corruption will be passed on. If you are using this G-drive with others, then they will also get the garbage in turn. ;-(

My uncles daughter is just 12 years old.
This site is making our ages are just numbers because surely we won't open discussions in real life this way.

Yes... If you are a home user. Corporate solutions are different. It's the teenagers that download various cracks and game software and are vulnerable mostly. Unfortunately in this case our friend downloaded something from an unverified source.
