We all use various cloud storage for our personal use (store personnel photos, backup important documents etc).

Cloud Storage Providers encrypt all your documents and store the keys with them.

If you are the one who knows the password and you have even activated the 2 factor authentication, only you can access the documents......or is that True?

Can an employee, who works there, see and even access your documents?

    Truth is Yes..... they can.

Of course there are internal controls to prevent that.
But if there is a court order or a rogue employee wants to see what you have stored, they can access your documents. Or even if someone is able to hack into hosting Provider, they can too.

Most Famous Cloud Storage (example - Google Drive, Onedrive, Dropbox etc) all have this issue.

If you store sensitive photos/documents to solve this issue, there are 2 things you can do.

    1. If you want to use the above mentioned famous Cloud Storages, encrypt all your documents 1st and upload it.

    Or

    2. Use a Cloud Service which offers "Zero-Knowledge Encryption".

    What is Zero-Knowledge Encryption?

These Cloud Service Providers use private encryption solve this problem by not storing a copy of your password with them.

(Technology is bit complicated, If u are interested read this article : https://tresorit.com/blog/zero-knowledge-encryption/ )

Basically Zero-Knowledge encryption means that service providers know nothing about the data you store on their servers

So,,,,If a government agent shows up with a warrant, all they will get are encrypted files.Zero-knowledge services can’t give away customers’ password because they have zero -knowledge.

So what are the Cloud Storage Providers with this technology?

    1. Mega NewZealand - https://mega.nz/register (15GB Free)

    2. Sync.com - I personally use this.. https://www.sync.com/?_sync_refer=e3e5b4f40 ( 5GB Free, Can get more Free storage for introducing new users) I put my referral link there. If you want you can help me by signing up using the referral link. We both get free GB.. or just remove the referral number in the link and sign up. :)

Downside of zero -knowledge : They don't know your password. So if you forgot your password, You wont be able to recover your password/documents.

If you know any other providers who offer this technology for free, please let me know :)

i suggested my fucking management to upgrade local servers, backup softwares, SAN devices at the same time in order to maintain in house backup / off site backup.

let them fuck them self one day.

any way i use g drive for my personal use not sensitive data.

We also use G-Suit, it's far more better than any other cloud services.
Definitely better than maintaining your own local server.
