The above news is utter bullshit poppycock, and here's proof! Check the log here. UL 504 never even stayed at 33000 feet, it directly climbed to 35000.
Also, the said British Airways flight BA 109 left at 5.59pm IST, while UL 504 left at 5.08pm IST. Seeing as UL 504 cruising at around 600mph, it had already gone more than 500 miles away when BA 109 even left. (if you need an example, that's twice the length of Sri Lanka from end to end)
Even if we imagine the poppycock about them traveling at the same elevation, if BA 109 had any hope of catching UL 504, it had to go supersonic, which is evidently impossible in a Boeing 777-300ER. Therefore, this is just utter bullshit.
Check the BA 109. And what a wonder, it traveled at a similar speed of around 600mph. It stayed at 35000 feet from 7.12pm to 9.40pm, while UL 504 stayed at the same elevation from 5.50pm to 8.05pm.
So that's an overlap of more than 52 minutes at the same height, evidently without issues because they were two Sri Lankas apart.
