Secretariat area turns into protest hub

Since the fall of the Awami League government, Dhaka has transformed into a city of protests, gatherings, and human chains.
Every day, various groups rally to press their demands in different parts of the capital. From the residence of the chief adviser to the Secretariat, and at key locations like the National Press Club and Shahbagh, demonstrations have become a common sight.
Under the previous government, protests, rallies, and human chains were strictly prohibited in the Secretariat area. However, the situation has changed drastically. The Secretariat has now become the epicentre for various groups to voice their demands.
For several days, different organizations have been holding rallies in the area, and Tuesday was no exception. In the morning, various groups gathered in front of the Secretariat, leading to significant traffic congestion.
At noon, multiple organizations, including village police members, nursing and midwifery students, anti-discrimination 43rd BCS non-cadre aspirants, the Shocheton Nurse O Midwife Somaj, and the Comprehensive Village Development Program (CVDP) under the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives, organized protests and human chains on Abdul Gani Road in front of the Secretariat.
Among them, the 43rd BCS non-cadre aspirants presented a three-point demand to the Public Service Commission (PSC) against discrimination. Their demands include the cancellation of the discriminatory 43rd BCS non-cadre results, immediate release of the full list of candidates who passed but were deprived of cadre positions, and a request to the Ministry of Public Administration to increase the number of posts until the final result of the 44th BCS is published.
They also called for ensuring employment for more candidates and making non-cadre recruitment smoother in ongoing BCS exams (44th, 45th, and others) as per the non-cadre rules of 2014.
A human chain took place demanding job regularization for drivers working on daily wages as assistant commissioner (land) and revenue circle drivers under the Ministry of Land.
Meanwhile, village police members held a protest rally on Abdul Gani Road in front of the Secretariat, demanding the nationalization of their jobs. They also staged a similar protest in front of the National Press Club.

නමුත් මේ වන විටත් එරට පරිපාලන කටයුතු දැඩි අවුල් සහගත තත්ත්වයට පවතින්නේ යයි විදෙස් මාධ්ය වාර්තා කරයි.
ආණ්ඩුවේ ආයතනවල ඉහළ නිලධාරින්ට විරුද්ධව පහළ සේවකයන් විරෝධතා සිදුකිරීම නිසා මෙම අවුල් සහගත තත්ත්වය ඇති වී තිබෙයි.
විරෝධතාකරුවන් දූෂිත නිලධාරින් ඉවත් කරන්නයි පවසන නිසා විවිධ ගැටලු මතු වී ඇත.
මෙම තත්ත්වය මත මහජනතාවට සිය සේවා සපයා ගැනීම ඉතා අසීරු වී තිබේ.
රජෙය් ඉහළ නිලධාරීන් ද තම තනතුරු අහිමිවි යනු ඇතැයි බියෙන් සිටිති.

Hundreds of students have stormed the Secretariat demanding the cancellation of the remaining Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams.
They entered the Secretariat through gate no 5, ignoring police barricades around 2pm on Tuesday.
They brought a rickshaw equipped with a loudspeaker, through which they broadcast their various demands.
The students then positioned themselves in front of building 6.
At one point, they sat down and chanted slogans such as “Our demands must be met, must be met, must be met”; “My brother is in the hospital, why are we in the exam hall.”
Police stationed at the Secretariat gates have taken refuge in a safe area.
An on-duty police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘This is not how duties should be performed.”
Another witness said: “It’s unimaginable that students could enter a crucial place like the Secretariat in this manner! To my knowledge, this is the first time any group has infiltrated the Secretariat like this.”
