Have you ever played on very old British made carrom boards?

I don't think I have.

Heavier boards are far superior without long term warping effects, offer much better & consistent rebounds and have much better playing surfaces than the cheap boards.

True, the quality of play should be considerably higher. I heard that actual discs are made of ivory.

The standard striker cannot exceed 15g in weight. Diameter no more than 4.13 cm. . A Striker made of any material other than Ivory and metal, with the specifications prescribed above, may be used.
Ivory strikers are banned and only mad made ivory discs are available.
