People who had a problem with the collapse they caused gave them the boot, not "JVPers"
JVPers were the ones telling bare-faced lies especially at election platforms to the public. Remember?
And going by that logic first highway projects were not done by the MR govt and the 2022 crisis was managed by GR, not RW 🤷‍♂️
Wrong. The highway projects were actually first planned during J.R. Jayewardene's era. The conceptual shift toward access-controlled highways was a direct byproduct of the open-economy policies introduced by him in the late 1970s and 1980s.
They only joined hands recently to try and resurrect their dead establishment after their collective governance thoroughly bankrupted the country
They realised too late that UNP and SJB separation caused AKD to rise. If they'd stood as one, this madness would never have arisen. Anyway, AKD doesn't even have the 51% majority to 'win' the election. Why doesn't the govt call an election to straiten things up?

And, didn't JVP also stand with MR and RW at one time or another? They even held ministerships under them.

Great great great grandparents < Parents

Well if they weren't corrupt to the core the country wouldn't have gone bankrupt and "the madness" would never have arisen either

Anyway, AKD doesn't even have the 51% majority to 'win' the election. Why doesn't the govt call an election to straiten things up?

    Straighten what up?

Don't remember them standing with RW. MR yes.

So the country didn't go bankrupt?
Went bankrupt due to the destabilisation and destruction caused by JVP. In 1987-89 alone it was over some Rs 50 billion in damages.
Long-term security costs stemming from JVP-related problems since that era are estimated between $2 billion and $5 billion. (Google).
I'm not writing about the damage to the country done in their 1979 insurrection.

And if you want more closer ones...

    Summary of the Pre-Bankruptcy Dynamic:

While the JVP did not write the catastrophic fiscal policies (like the 2019 tax cuts or the 2021 fertilizer ban) that served as the primary triggers for bankruptcy, their active exploitation of the situation through strikes, political road-blocking, and opposition to foreign funding options drastically narrowed the country’s escape routes in the 24 months leading up to the crash.
Their mass strikes during Pre-Crisis Fuel & Food Shortages (prior to April 2022), Campaigning against early IMF Intervention (2020 to mid-2021), Fierce resistance to port terminals and Foreign Capital Inflows (Early 2021) and sabotaging the US$480 million MCC Development Grant (in 2020) were some of them. In fact, the intense political pressure agaist MCC forced the government to formally reject the US$480 million grant in late 2020. Economists point out that rejecting this massive, non-debt influx of foreign cash severely damaged Sri Lanka's international financial standing right before the reserve crisis hit.

lol JVP wasn't even the major opposition party back then and you make them sound like they were the ruling party :geek:

They had a 3% voter share and 3 MPs out of 225 MPs in the parliament.

They couldn't "force the government" to do jack shit. If they could Ranil would never have become the president.

If any political party had only 3% voter share in parliament, people would expect them to merely exist or support the govet. But not so the JVP Marxists. Their origins coming from the vicious, murderous thugs who looted the country in 1979, easily pushed them to organise riots and work stoppages at work places and on roads and fields. So in more ways than one they were a potent force.
Finally, they were too 'yellow-bellied' to take-over the country and lead it in 2022 during bankruptcy.

Are you even reading what the AI says before copy pasting it here wholesale? How tf are they supposed to "take over" with just 3MPs in the parliament?

It wasn't the JVP alone but their coalition with NPP that won them the election. People eventually believed the NPP had 'professionals' and voted. JVP in itself wouldn't ever win any election for their history of destruction.
Why didn't they take over when GR offered anyone the chance? If they took over, what policy would they have taken, a 'leftist marxist policy'? Would they have gone to the IMF which they were totally against (even when GR tried during his time)? How did CB Governor suddenly turn a 'good boy' when they got power? :-)
