It's not jealousy. I want my House Officer (1st year after graduation) to be a well trained person. And under current PMCs, I can't see any possibility of them getting that training

Medicne is not about knowledge. It s knowledge, skills, communication abilities, and has an artistic touch to it. Because of that training should be a good one. One General Hospital will receive more patients than the entire private sector (in ward ones) in a given time. The exposure for graduates training in a Private hospital will be very limited. There are more problems, and I'll discus them then and there.

This is not true. All the medical graduates up to 2012 will get a government job, if they wish to.

You have no idea how Medical Councils in various countries work. If the graduates are not recognised in the country of origin (that is in SL), that degree will not be accepted by any decent foreign medical council.

But in Monash Malaysia the degree is accepted in Australia too.Not only in Aus that is....
Thats cos the syllabus and the papers are set by the Aus one.
Something like this will be put to this uni too I'm dead sure cos of the attitude of ppl like u.....

Let's see. If it's not accepted by SLMC, decent enough medical councils will reject recognition. Even few countries accept it, 150+ graduates each year is a big influx to any country. Then I hav e not mentioned how much you have to pay for the internship in those countries.

Private universities are good indeed. But they should be of good quality. ANd infra-structure like student loans, transparent admission criteria and common exam system should be there with good regulatory authority. These things are not available in SL. Until they are available, I oppose opening of any private university.

ANd infra-structure like student loans, transparent admission criteria and common exam system should be there with good regulatory authority. These things are not available in SL. Until they are available, I oppose opening of any private university.

What are you saying man...as a example. The South Asias Largest Information Technology Awarding Institute is in Malebe(SLIIT). Did you know that??

Its SemeGovernment..And its graduates are world wide recognized..harward and International university sumting Named it as a technology University Since they have started many departments now.(Electrical Engeneering + management). They also have affiliated degrees.

If you are talking about the qulity its one of the best you can have the awards they have got are good evidence. overriding the facalty of science in university of moratuwa.

Infracstucture is better tha nany other university in Sri Lanaka. A/C Lectuer rooms. very big premises. Local & International Recogniized Lectures. Shopping complex..food shops..4 computer labs + the one and only CISCO lab in Sri Lanka and many more...what else could we want...

Entry criteria is very good...there is a exam. there are looking for A/L for local students and O/L+ect for international students. Hard Sememter based exams some papers are directly securely imported to the uviversity from afilliated body.

4th year is known as the hardest becoz...its the year that check all the things you have learnt, whether you have learnt correctly. THE PROJECT

I'M PROUDE ABOUT HIM COZ NOW HE'S ONE OF THE TOP SOFTWARE ENGENEERS IN THE WORLD, WORKING FOR MISROSOFT.............

He Got A,B,S for his A/L.....he ddn't stop there he moved on Now hez a proffessional...it SLIIT weren't there he would have done A/L 3 times...get thru enter gov.campus and be the same man hez now...but he ddnt wait another yer....he got al these chance becoz SLIIT was there....so Opening opatunuties like this will never cause bad to our country..education is a need..let every one have it...

Yes. They are short of staff. Even people like me who have 2nd classes got appointments as lecturers (Usually you need a first class with distictions to get to the university staff), but no one is willing to stay at Saliyapura for their entire life. As a result most of my batch mates (about 9-10) did not take up the job and instead done their PGs, working in governmnet sector. And this was bound to happen, without a University medical Unit in GH-A'pura, it was asking for trouble.

Number is grossly wrong. It's around 300 maximum. Now it has fallen to about 150 per year.

wow 150? no frikin way.. after 2009 A/L ... im 100% sure on this.. 70+ students entered the UNI of science and technology med faculty chittagong. about 40 came to Tianjin med fac.. another 40 odd number entered for the chittagong med fac. this is only for medicine.. i dont know the numbers who entered into western countries and for others and so and so...

IF the government keeps a tab on the proceedings on this campus im not in anyway opposed to this. i Think something will be done under the new regime.. one thing is for sure this wont get stopped this time

the only reason that the government cannot start and maintain new medical faculties is due to the money factor.. its a good thing a closely monitored private sector being brought in to the scene.

Sri Lanka has a severe shortage of medical doctors and specialist doctors.. mainly specialist doctors.. due to the brain drain. The small number of doctors passing out of faculties does not help either.
I dont remember in which medical field this is but in a radio show Mr Kahandaliyanage himself accepted that sri lanka had only 5 specialist doctors opposed to Australia who has about 2000 of them despite both our countries having very similar populations.
