To get a students package you have to be a student of a university or any other higher education institute...
But i would like to share my experience with you..Dialog student package was really bad..the six months i spent with it was the worst exp. i ever had with my comp.. 5gb was enuf for me for only 4days or so thereafter it was basically a dialup connection..only good thing about it is the modem that you get for 5500.

after 6 months i switched to the simple plan...actually it was a simple plan...you only need 500..unlike dialog you dont have to wait for 2hrs to get a connection..very easy no deposits etc..earlier the speeds were really good i always got about 2000kbps+ all the time..but then after a couple of months it began to suck..even in the mornings i got only about 100kbps...but now it has become good again..this is what i get..in the evening and night..not very fast but certainly faster than slt..

in the mornings speeds are much better usually around 2mbps..way better than dialog..

But one thing to notice is that the speeds are not always stable...but more stable than dialog...

i have also used mobitel hsdpa before getting this unlimited connection..it was the best of all three..speeds were stable and always above 1mbps..but it was very expensive as well.
i am not an airtel salesrep. as prasadana2.(one of my friend @ dialog told me that they have a very big target to cover.which will be only possible if they remove the damn FUP.)the once i even complained to trc and about a billing issue and caused many problems for them..but so far im very contended with my airtel unlimited connection.

About the FUP.as far as i am concerned airtel has no FUP..i have downloaded more than 25gb for this month still i am getting same speeds..it is actually good..

so my recomendations are
If you are a moderate internet user
1.if you can get an ADSL unlimited connection..get it..
2.Then if you have HSDPA in your area and no ADSL or although you have ADSL you want a mobile connection..above all if you have money go for mobitel
3.If you are not that rich and no ADSL or although you have ADSL you want a mobile connection go for Airtel..
4.If you want an unstable connection and use under 5gb per month then go for dialog.

If you are aheavy downloader 2mbps adsl or AIRTEL unlimited is the most suitable.

For the record.i live in kandy( actually about 7Kms away from kandy)
I get about 15% of full strength of airtel signals
I got about 80%+ of dialog signals
and aalmost 100% of mobitel

There is another thing, airtel outstation 3g coverage is not good..

IMO airtel will give you a good value for your money..

    okay.here are the charges..

1gb limited package - 300 per month.. but for an each additional kb they will charge 1/2cent..that means you have to bay about 5000 for an additional 1gb..,so dont go for this..

3gb limited package - 600 per month..this is good..speeds are better even 1.5mbps in night..very stable..( i used this when the airtel speeds reduced due to their mainatanace thing..)..i recommend if you use can keep it under 3gb..since the additional charges are same as for the 1gb package..

for unlimited package monthly commitment is 1499- with all the taxes it is about 1900/- just Rs4s higher than dialog package...

You can get it from any airtel store..
    http://airtel.lk/AirtelSL/storelocator/storelocator.html

you can check for the availability of 3g signals using a normal airtel prepaid sim using an hsdpa or 3g umts phone.

then if u have signals then you can buy a sim for just 500rupees..you have to take NIC and some billing proof(an updated bank account pass book or a statement) with you.

If you dont have an hsdpa phone..you will have to buy an HSDPA modem.@ the time i got my connection it was Rs10000..ekse you can buy a dialog modem from dialog for 9900 and unlock it.(if dialog people ask you simply tell them that you wanna use kit prepaid internet)..

Thats all..their billing cycle starts on 9th of every month and for the first month you will be charged on pro rate basis + a one time fee of 500(i cant remember exactly..but it was around 500)..thats all

Yeah most probably..i also have a k530 but the maximum speed that you can get is 384kpbs..since it has only umts..if your signal strength(umts) is above 3bars of your k530i..thats when the signal bars are blue you will get about 300kbps...thats my experience..anyway where do you live?
