It is no surprise that Windows 7 is faster than Vista, even MS said it will be. But whether it is faster than XP is still not clear. That test only compares Startup and shutdown times for XP, general performance (PCMark) is not compared. Going by the system requirements, Win 7 needs at least 1 GB of RAM with a 1GHz processor while XP needs only 64Mb of RAM and a 233MHz processor, that means older systems with less RAM will not be able to run it properly, therefore XP still might be the best option for old low-end systems.

However, for new systems with a good CPU, Graphics card and plenty of RAM Win7 is the way to go.

Thanks for the link.

Im still using XP SP2..Tried vista once and had huge compatibility issues with a lot of stuff. So went back to XP.

I hope maybe with win7 things might be different!

comparing performance of Vista and win 7 is ok but windows xp is not suitable for this test. xp is definitely high on performance coz it's using very low resources.
I'm using vista for long time now and fully satisfied with it, u just need to have the right system ;) win 7 is much faster than vista but i'm having some driver issues with it

win 7 is da most stable version and speed closer to XP. if you are using old PC you can say XP is da best. But my 10 years old TV card working on win7 properly and now itz support S3 sleep mode without errors.

With the overall performance (specially DX10) win7 is da best version i think (with da enough resources).
