Anarkalie claims she was threatened by a fellow candidate
Southern Provincial Council Candidate from the UPFA Anarkalie Akarsha claims she was threatened by a fellow candidate from the same party on Monday afternoon, in the Galle area.
“I was threatened by the candidate last afternoon and he threatened to harm me, my mother and all those who were working on my campaign”, Anarkalie told the Daily Mirror online.
The incident had occurred around one in the afternoon while she was by the side of the road having refreshments. At this time a group of armed men had confronted her.
Following the incident a complaint had been lodged with the Galle Police. “This happened at about one and then at around six I made a compliant with the Galle Police”, she said.
However when contacted by the Daily Mirror the Galle Police station stated that no compliant had yet been made.
In order to ensure her safety the candidate has requested Police protection. “I have requested protection because I fear for my life and the life of those around me and working on my campaign,” she said.
