President reappoints Jayasundara as treasury secretary
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has reappointed Dr. P.B. Jayasundara as the treasury secretary with immediate effect, the government information department said today. The Supreme Court last week gave Dr. P.B. Jayasundara relief to resume service in the state sector.
PB should not be re-appointed as Treasury Secretary - Wimal
National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa said that his party will oppose any moves to re-appoint Dr. P.B Jayasundara to his former post as the Treasury Secretary to the finance ministry saying it will give a wrong impression to the West on state issues.

The President whatever he wants because he is the executive president. This benefited us during the war when he ignored all the warnings by the western governments. But this decision as well as his other decisions which only benefits the Rajapaksha family is ruining our country. Without doubt this is a great mistake he has done. And PB himself should be ashamed to make himself available for this position. Long live the banana Republic.

This is outrageous how can one who vowed in the highest court in the country that he is not suitable for further service in the public sector come back into the same position. This is contempt of court !!! Furthermore these people are the ones who send millions of rupees down the drain through hedging deals and orchestrated many other malpractices within public services. He certainly does not deserve this post and this gives us a clear picture of the President's intention of handling public services...

This clearly shows the total disregard & scant respect to the public opinion by the Government. It was yesterday that the term of the current Secretary to the Treasure was given an extension of one year by the President. Within 24 hours he is removed & the “all faithful” former Secretary with an “unblemished & very clean” past track record is re-appointed to this all important position. It was only end of last week that another motion was filed in the Supreme Court against this appointment. Now it is more than evident that this Government neither needs a judiciary, police nor the free media. All the road signs are going towards only one direction, the direction of a totalitarian dictatorship, which is the fundamental principle of our new found friends such as Iran, Libya, Myanmar etc. Way to go…………..

It is indeed commendable that HE the President has steadfast placed his confidence in Dr Jayasundera despite vested interests trying to muddy Dr PBJ's image. The 7 judge bench of the Supreme Court decision to grant DR PBJ relief is indeed an eye opener to many including myself. I myself mistakenly formed the opinion that the LMS deal was indeed a flawed transaction and the parties involved were in fact guilty. However, the recent evidence that is rising to the surface, including the recent disclosure that Nihal Amarasekere himself recommended the transfer of land to LMS after due consideration, and the manner in which the LMS BOI agreement was cancelled raises several questions on the process that has taken place and whether certain evidence was suppressed from court by the petitioner Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Nihal Amarasekere in a bid to deliberately mislead the court.
