Explosion in a van in Kurunegala

Blast inside a school van in Kurunegala, 7 injured

A blast has occurred inside a school van in Uduwalpola, Kurunegala this morning. Police say seven of the passengers which included school children and the driver sustained minor injuries following the explosion. The cause of the blast is not yet known.

Police said that following initial investigations they suspect a personal enmity as the reason for the explosion. The school van had been parked inside the garage of the house with schoolchildren inside and when the driver had attempted to start the vehicle the blast had occurred. Eight school children and the driver have sustained injuries

The blast that occured this morning on Sumanadasa Mawatha in Uduwalpola Kurunegala this morning appeared to be the result of a civil dispute, Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said. The explosion had taken place inside of a school van that had been parked at the garage of the owner, a Mr. Sumanapala, the Police Spokesman further clarified.
