thumbs up man... i heard way back that there was another distro called thambapanni.. i was not into foss stuff those days. so don't have any information about it ;)
There was another local distro named Taprobane but that never went anywhere and died some time back. Are you referring to that ?

I tried the distro straight from the cd (livecd) and its pretty good. I was able to get the Dialog Wimax internet connection working without having to download and install any software or messing with configuration files. I was able to get it working using the Network Configuration GUI applet.
It identified all the hardware in my pc and everything worked out of the box (sound, video, etc). Also the Sinhala SCIM was pretty good as the translations were accurate.
All in all a good distro and well developed.

hey man, am not familiar with xfce. so is it possible to install gnome over the xfce desktop?
It is possible. With linux you can have multiple Desktop Environments so you can keep both XFCE and Gnome or keep only one.
However XFCE is a very good lightweight DE and Hanthana's XFCE based DE is a bit customized to have all the necessary components so it quite easy to use.
It will be worthwhile to use that XFCE.

Now I'm officially using Hanthana as my only OS on my PC.

i tried to install it too. but i got a problem. it says / partition should be ext4 to match with the live cd something. but if i choose ext4 then another msg say that the / partition shouldn't be ext4. guess i have to create another ext4 partition and ext3 partition for /

I had the same issue. Apparently, this is a problem with Fedora 11 live images.
What you have to do is to create a smaller (100-200mb) partition for /boot in ext3 and and a separate partiton for / in ext4. After that the installation works fine.
