Punishment for Child Molestors

Why is the punishment for child molestation so light? The most someone would receive for molesting a child is about 5 years, and some get off with just months in jail.


Most pedophiles, once released from prison go on molesting children. In '94, a Dr. Gene Abel conducted a survey of 453 pedophiles, who were responsible for the molestation of over 67,000 children. Each pedophile molested an average of 148 children each. I don't think pedophiles should be let back into our communities. Having them under supervision means nothing. According to the Bureau of Justice Standards, "60% of 234,000 sex offenders in 1994 convicted of rape or sexual assault were under conditional supervision in the community. The punishment for child molestors is not effective. Child molestors are getting smarter. They in positions now where they have closer contact with children. Like teachers, principals, child care providers. It's getting to the point where kids are not safe anywhere.



I think child molestation should carry the same punishment as murder. When a child is molested their childhoods are being murdered. Of the sex offenders in State Prisons, 2/3rds of them were molested as a child according to the Bureau of Justice Standards. If the laws change, and child molestors are not let back on the streets, then it would decrease the number of sex crimes in our country.
