Editor of ‘Lanka’ newspaper arrested over news item
The Editor of the privately owned ‘Lanka’ newspaper Chandana Sirimalwatta has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a news item regarding the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Sarath Fonseka appearing in the Sunday edition of the newspaper, staff of the publication told Daily Mirror online.

I thought writing anything in support of a Terrorist cause while it is banned under Emergency, but writing about Gen. Fonseka does not amount to a criminal act, but a civil offence if at it was considered to be offence. HOW COME ANY BODY COULD BE JUST ARRESTED , WHERE IS THE FUNDAMENTAL AND CIVIL RIGHTS IN SRI LANKA. These are the matter that amounts to the DENIAL OF GSP+ by EU. As long as S/L restricts the freedom of the citizens, DON'T DREAM OF GETTING GSP+ or any other AIDS.

I fully agree with Thomas...very well said by him. Its evidently clear that the government is really scared of general Sarath Fonseka.

It is very funny that we have a Minister for Human Rights but no human rights - and even freedom of expression as one sees fit. It would be understandable if the editor of Lanka interviewed and wrote about a terrorist, but it now looks like even interviewing the former Army Commander is an offence. Reminds one of George Bush's theory: Either you are with us or you are with them. The rulers of this country have gone mad, proving the saying that when God wants to destroy somebody, he first makes him mad.

Disgraceful act by the government. It appears that no one can say anything harmful to the government or MR. I fully support SF as the true war hero!
