by Indika Sri Aravinda.
Nishantha Mutthuhettigama together with the National Organization for Sri Lankan Senior Citizens is to set up his own political party to contest in the upcoming general elections. Mutthuhettigama told Daily Mirror online that the present regime was not going in the right direction and that the new alliance would effectively contest their policies.
The new party, that is to be called the Sri Lanka Nidhahas Jeyshta Puravesi Mahajana Eksath Jathika Peramuna (Sri Lanka Free Senior Citizens Public United National Alliance) has already been given the green light by its Executive Committee, according to Muthuhettigama who also said that the symbols used for the new alliance would be a choice between a crown, a sword and a lion.
Speaking further Muthuhettigama said that his party hoped to have either the Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapkse or senior presidential advisor Basil Rajapakse as its leader whilst he would retain for himself the roles of National Organizer, Publicity Secretary and Trade Union Director General.
Muthihettigama said that with the exception of people that didn’t care for the country like the National Freedom Front’s Wimal Weerawansa, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’s Somawansa Amarasinghe and Tilvin Silva any other politician was welcome to join his party. He spoke specifically of opposition leader Ranil Wickramasighe, SLFP Mahajana wing organizer Mangala Samaraweera, and the current Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka.
Muthuhettigama also added that the first lady Shiranthi Rajapakse and her sons would be welcome to his party.
