Nov 05, Colombo: Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka has arrived in the country this morning from the United States, the sources at the Bandaranaike International Airport confirmed.

According to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration, General Fonseka was immediately driven away under tight security soon after he arrived in the country.

He has arrived in the country by a commercial flight, UL 218, which came from Kuwait at around 4.35 early this morning.

However the airport officials have not allowed the journalists to interview General Sarath Fonseka at the airport.

The US government official had contacted General Fonseka on October 28 and informed him that they wanted to 'interview' him regarding the Sri Lankan 'Defence Minister' in connection with alleged human rights violations during the war against the LTTE.

General Fonseka was advised by the Sri Lankan government not to attend the interview called by the US officials, which was scheduled for Wednesday.

Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka has left the United States Wednesday morning to return to Colombo without questioning by the US officials, the Foreign Ministry confirmed.
