Govt. politicians are not king makers but ‘body’ makers – Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa
While Rs.2300 million has been allocated from the Vote on Account passed in Parliament yesterday for the maintenance of the President, the Sports Ministry of the Western PC has taken measures to make available a set of fitness equipment to him spending nearly Rs.200,000.
The Western PC has allocated only Rs.11 million as capital expenditure for development of sports in all three districts of Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha. This is Rs.2 million less that the allocations for 2008. In such a situation Rs.19.1 has been allocated from Vote on Account as days expenses of the President.
Speaking at the budget debate of the Western PC JVP Member Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said when a student of Gurukula Vidyalaya had requested for a pair of running shoes to train for the National Sport Festival and when not even a cricket bat had been given to clubs that had requested for such aid, the Western PC rejected those requests stating there was no money. However, making available a set of fitness equipment to the Temple Trees spending nearly Rs.200,000 is deplorable said Mr. Jayatissa.
Speaking further Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said government politicians have become not king
