Leaders of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) today carried out a special religious activity at the Munneswaram Hindu Kovil in Chilaw against the attack on the house of parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara several weeks ago.
According to sources, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake organized the religious observance, using coconuts to receive blessings.
Afterwards, UNP parliamentarians joined a special protest campaign in Chilaw against the attack.
During the protest, Mr. Attanayake told the media that they have taken this action as the Government has failed to arrest suspects in the crime, in which the MP’s house and office were set on fire.
Meanwhile, demanding compensation, parliamentarian Bandara staged a protest campaign in front of the Parliament alone with his wife and children several days ago.
