It is reported that Genral Sarath Fonseka who retired on the 16th after 40 years of service, has to give up his official residence at the army headquarters which he occupied for 15 years.

Owing to security reasons he had been in the Army Headquarters residence for a long time. It is reported that he will therefore continue in his official residence‘ General’s House’ until he gets a suitable place for his stay.

It is learnt that his request for bigger security detail, including bullet proof cars and back up vehicles has been considered favorably by the Ministry of Defense.

Following his retirement, as his staff at residence and at office have been transferred, and it is not customary to provide an official House for a retired Army general, he will have to look for a residence on his own.

According to reports, Gen. Fonseka‘s private residence is at Hokandara. But, he has decided not to go there. This house is a small one with two rooms.

Although the General stated that he would make an announcement within 48 hours after his retirement, the general has been avoiding it, reports say.
