Action would be taken after nominations against media institutions, specially the state media, if they do not act impartially said Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake when he met representatives of opposition political parties at a discussion.
The representatives of opposition political parties have, with proof, shown the Commissioner of Elections that state media acts in a partial manner supporting the government at the election.
They have asked the Commissioner to follow a tough policy against the state media and conduct a fair election.
The Commissioner of Elections had said the state as well as private media operate on their own agenda and this is quite obvious to everybody. He had said under the authority he would get under the 17th amendment he could control all media but at present he could not do much as the 17th amendment has not been made operational.
He has said he would take necessary steps to hold a just and free election after nominations are accepted.
