what about solaris by Steven Soderbergh (director of Erin Brockovich and Traffic)

Solaris2002poster.jpg

It is based on the science fiction novel by Polish writer Stanisław Lem (which also inspired the critically acclaimed 1972 Soviet film of the same name, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky)

Downfall (2004)
The final ten days of Adolf Hitler's life in his Berlin bunker and Nazi Germany in 1945

I have seen a lot of ppl out here r praising the film

But for me
The problem of Downfall is, it makes insufficient emotional and intellectual feeling about hard dictatorship of Hitler. Instead it gives emptiness.
An extremely tame portrayal of Hitler's madness. Boring no passion, no intensity.

I don't rate it higher even though the film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

It is sometimes referred to as one of the best debut feature films in history (alongside Citizen Kane by Orson Welles and Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard)

Mickey Rourke delivers one of the most honest and heart breaking performances I've seen from an actor.

well the way i feel , if you are looking for emotional manfestations in German movies mate . that is a futile effort..
for what i have seen sofar in German flicks they are more in the line of deviousness...
thanx to Bruno ganz we see a solid portrayal of desperation , frustration of hitler...
his unwilling to put down the ego and anger to those who trying to surrender.. oh there are many occasions ..
situation has been changed we dont get to see the Hitler who rule the Third reich , and i doent think this movie tried to make show him as a
    emotinal /caring /kind hearted person
what we see is his Frustraton , desperation .. imho this flick is eligible for the nomination... they should make more movies like this

ya bro i got u r point....what i feel is if he knows he is on the verge of collapsing his city of Berlin.I expect him to be more serious. His generals r serious than ever.coz they know they all gonna die and what is eminent.
But instead i found director couldn't capable of producing the dark seriousness prevailing in the situation .But he made Hitler as a joker or some sort. That's what i felt.

The seriousness i mentioned here i found in "The pianist" even though its not relevant to Hitler
