The police are reluctant to tear down pro-government posters and cut outs in the Kelaniya-Kiribathgoda areas owing to powerful pressure from a regional politician, an independent polls observer said.
Keerthi Tenakoon with the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) said that although the police had done a commendable job in cleaning up election propaganda material else where in the country the position remained the same in the Kelaniya division.
SDIG Election Secretariat Gamini Navaratne on Friday vowed to clean up the remaining election propaganda material including the Kelaniya division by midnight yesterday.
