I didn't play it much either, I'm not into Role playing games much
well, obviously the porn/dating games are not in the mainstream so GTA is considered the trend setter for that.
Still, playing jap games with no translation is a lot of fun since you have no idea what will happen when you click on an option.

Anyway before GTA came out, the first time I saw a hint of this trend was in a FPS game called "Chrome" at the end you'd have to make a decision and based on that the ending will be present to you differently!
It was still very much structured but was something new, FYI the game was totally written in JAVA and you could access the whole source code from the installation directory!
Actually GTA started a lot more trends like the game-in-game or sub plots, the whole idea of making a thief the protagonist and leading a life of crime the whole focus of the game was a first as well.LOLz!

That was a cool mission. Not so much the actual blowing up the president's limo but what happens soon after you blow it up!
problem is a lot of guys here haven't played HL,or FEAR,Halo,or even sprinter cell.but most of them have played Crysis and new COD...coz those r relatively newer games..
