A leader of a main political party in the opposition alliance and the spokesman of another, who are inside the Cinnamon Lake Hotel at the moment have met some foreign correspondents a short while ago, sources inside the hotel said.
They had reportedly told the foreign media that the government had curtailed the freedom of movement of opposition Presidential candidate General (Retired) Sarath Fonseka, the sources said.
When the correspondent had questioned the party men on what basis they were accusing the government, they had said that the military personnel surrounding the hotel would not permit them to leave the premises.
When the correspondents had asked the opposition politicians whether they had tried to go out, they had replied in the negative and claimed that even if they tried, they would not be allowed to go out.
The sources point out that the opposition seems to be attempting to make an issue of the prevailing situation and accuse the government of forcibly curtailing the retired General’s freedom of movement.
