Fonseka to 'testify on war crimes'

Sri Lanka's former military commander says that he is prepared to give evidence in an international court on war crime charges against Sri Lanka.

General Sarath Fonseka speaking to journalists in Colombo on Monday said, "I am not going to save anyone who has committed war crimes".

International human rights organisations as well as the US state department has alleged that the Sri Lankan government committed war crimes during the final phase of the war against Tamil Tigers.

Several human rights organisations have called to try the Sri Lankan state in international courts on alleged abuses against civilians and surrendees.

During the presidential election where Gen. Fonseka challenged president Mahinda Rajapaksa, both claimed credit for defeating the LTTE.

"I am definitely going to reveal what I know, what I was told and what I heard. Any one who has committed war crimes should definitely be brought into courts," Gen. Fonseka said.

"Those who reveal the truth are not traitors" he added.

    a dreamer ...

dude do u know how serious theses allegations are ....

yes these are the most serious of any kind and if there is sufficient evidence to convict an individual who SF refers to as a "useless fellow who interfered with the military" they will feel the full force. SF has put himself out there by accepting full responsibility for everything which happened under his command. Looks like that might be the only get out of jail clause for anyone who is implicated in this.....

Yako read the post (SF refers to as "useless fellow"). The question is whether or not Gotabaya is a useless fellow or not (according to SF he is) but if according to what has been said further by SF, there is evidence to implicate him as a war criminal, then it's a bit beyond being useless. I am not going to apportion credit to anyone with winning the war, rather see one force overcoming a bunch of terrorists.

The BBC on this occasion are tuning their story to sell better and brand "SRI LANKA" as war criminals just like how the BBC interview made Gotabaya look very bad (he just made it worse by shouting).

As you said bro no point arguing on line.... let's wait and see what happens and who is truly implicated.

    One thing for sure...
SF was arrested to close his mouth..

Does that mean someone really did war crimes?

It's quite obvious the "arrest" and "allegations" are politically motivated. If no one has done any war crimes then there is nothing to worry about. However if someone has done them well..... we will have to wait and see where all this ends up.
