Match referee Ranjan Madugalle has fined Mitchell Johnson and Scott Styris for their on-field spat during Wednesday's ODI in Napier. Australia fast bowler Johnson was docked 60% of his match fee for a Level Two offence and Kiwi all-rounder Styris 15%, at Level One.
Both were found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council's code of conduct after clashing in a match which finished in a two-wicket win for the hosts.
The incident came at the end of the 46th over of the New Zealand innings - initially a verbal exchange, followed by "deliberate and inappropriate physical contact" on Johnson's part.
The players appeared to bump shoulders, and then heads too.
Johnson pleaded guilty, as did Styris, without the need for a full disciplinary hearing - and match referee Madugalle duly imposed the fines.
He also reminded both players of their responsibilities under the ICC's code.
"Sometimes in the heat of competition players cross over the line of what is acceptable behaviour, and that has clearly happened in this case," said Madugalle.
"I made it clear to them that as role models it's important they conduct themselves not only within the laws of cricket but also in keeping with the spirit of the game."
