Akon to rock The Maldives in wake of Sri Lanka ban

The tranquil Maldives will host an Akon concert in the wake of a ban imposed by Sri Lanka.

The AFP reports the island offered the American rapper a concert after protesting Buddhist monks stymied his Sri Lanka performance next month.

The monks were opposed to his Sexy Bitch music video
that showed women in bikinis dancing poolside - and a fleeting Buddha statue in the background.

The Sri Lankan tourism authority said Colombo could not issue a visa to Akon because the video was 'insensitive to Sri Lanka's [Buddhist] cultural heritage'.

The rapper's Sri Lanka show was reported to have sold out, with tickets valued at 25,000 rupees [$220].

The Maldives, meanwhile, welcomed the prospect of the star playing on April 23.

'We are very happy he is planning to come and perform,' said the spokesman for President Mohamed Nasheed by phone.

Maldives is a country which thrives on tourism. So they don't care what type of shit that washes ashore in their islands as long as they make a profit out of it!!!

I don't know why on earth would our ppl be so concerned about this issue! This is so simple. Akon did something bad. He tried to act as if he never knew it. Our stupid event organizers did not analyse the impact on akons behavior towards Sri Lanka's main religious beliefs. ppl began to show their disapproval. So his tour was cancelled. It is not a conspiracy. WTF is wrong with u ppl?? No common sense? Every reaction to anything internationally related is a conspiracy! I think the main conspires are the event organizers. Cos if they did not try to bring a corrupt person in the first place there would be no problem like this.
