Gold Coast, Australia is also competing

they already have many facilities & they are going to invest another $1 Billion

$1,000,000,000

This bid is another 'suba anagathayak' project to waste money, steal peoples money.

mul gala witherak thiyana wadak meka

Winning the bid is not the issue.. we may or may not get it!

But if we want to compete then we will have to develop our infrastructure..

So are you against that?

Dont you think this is a good opportunity for Sri Lanka? Tourism? to bring back that economy?

I think its a great opportunity!

We may have to spend money but its a long term investment!!

Is India as good as Gold Coast to host Commonwealth in 2014?

salli enne haden da ?

lanka is currently running on an IMF loan

please switch off ITN & come to earth

what's next Somalia hosting the Olympics ?

Before or after it doesn't really matter... are you against developing the infrastructure of the country?
you need to have money to develop the infrastructure

economic reform, encouraging investment into the country, fighting corruption & restoring the law is a good start to develop the country

working with the IMF & other international partners is also needed to move forward

We are not talking about having it tomorrow!

Winning the bid is a superb way to attract investors.. a huge reason for them to invest in SL, if we manage to hold the Commonwealth in 2018, we can host many other Asian events too... the facilities not gonna runaway after commonwealth!

Ofcourse govt. will have to have plans on how to maintain those, but its a good step forward for other sports other than Cricket in this country!

Look at SAF games now... those days you can see Sri Lanka always in the 2nd position for medal tally... now 3rd.. you can clearly see the sports we dominated are taken away from us every year... we dominated swimming, track and field events.. now swimming is almost gone to India, just surviving on track and field events.. that too barely!!

After 1996 all the money revolving around Cricket, we really need a boost for our other sports.. and this could be it.. if we don't win the bid, it won't do any harm!

Corruption is not something you or me can stop, like you always say... if you have proof why not go to court?
