MERVYN’S SACRIFICE FOR MEDIA

From Ada Derana ;)

MERVYN’S SACRIFICE FOR MEDIA

1744071182mervyn2.jpg

April 29, 2010 11:58 am

In an inaugural press briefing that could only be termed ‘amusing’, the new Deputy Media Minister Mervyn Silva revealed that upon accepting the portfolio he and his wife had decided to sleep in separate rooms so that he will be available to serve the media at anytime of the day.

Silva added that he was prepared to forego his wellbeing and protect the media who were patriotic and honourable.

Regarding the incident where he sat at the feet of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Silva stated that without the D.A. Rajapaksa family he would have not entered politics. If not for D.A. Rajapaksa I would have today been a shopkeeper selling potatoes and onions at my father’s shop, Silva claimed.

These remind us Dr. A.J Ranasinghe the Media Minister during late President Ranasinghe Premadasa. Having that type of a Minister contributed adversely for the image of the Late President. Prez MR should be more mindful of this fact. Keeping a Media Minister of this calibre could create a lot of unwanted enimies and antoganise many parties whom can be used as Prez MR´s prospective partners in progress. So a repetition can NOT be ruled out specially in a situation where there are many sections(NGOs and foreign powers) trying hard to undermine Prez MR (or the progress of the country)!!! May the relevant people get the wisdom. That is all I can wish.

Dr. Mervyn has been honest to admit him self of the past vices. He will make a good deputy to Keheliya who would be the potential Media Minister.

RANIL INVITES SAJITH FOR TALKS

April 29, 2010 06:38 am

UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe is scheduled to meet UNP Hambanthota MP Sajith Premadasa today for a special discussion in Colombo. Speaking to Ada Derana, Sajith Premadasa said that the UNP leader had invited him for a meeting and that he was unaware of the specifics on what will be discussed.

The UNP’s restructure programme is likely to be completed within the next two weeks and party MPs are to be vested with new responsibilities as an initial step and another key change is said to be vesting Premadasa with a higher ranking position.

I am forwarding another way of looking at Mervin being the deputy to media minister. In schools, sratergy being used to reform school bullies is to give then a responsible position of caring. Very often it does the trick without resorting to punishing and susupention which create more problematic individuals in the society. So consider Mervin back in school learning good behaviour in a positive manner. Good luck Mr Mervin.

The first and foremost question, we should ask from newly appointed deputy media minister is that he must tell the General Public the date he stop using alcohol.or Is he still addicted to alcohol.he should set an example to his constituents first. by the look of it, the way he trying stop selling alcohol is nasty and it´s a jungle law. but the idea is good.the way he acted to promoted to limit the use of liquor indicate his background and the rule of law in the country is in the hand of uneducated people.

Ms is a Mess. I am still shocked to know that such people like MS are elected to run the country. MS is a very good candidate for phycho researches if we have these genes multiplied we are looking at another afganistan. A man who wants to be a dictator , A man who has not faced proper punishment thru our legal system. A man who likes to be the King , A man who wants to be the local HITTLER, How on earth could this man become a Local hero and a man who wants to cntrol the Freedom of Speech and Media. Why was he given a ministerial position to control the Freedom of Speech? A country without Freedom of Sppech is directly UNDER the a government of Dictatorship.

It need no special education to be offered a doctorate as many those who think as they are jealous of Hon.Dr.Mervin Silva. The work he has done in promoting Homeopathy medicine is a great service to the country. We need people who could work not people who have paper qualifications but cannot work. I believe Dr.Mervin Silva deserves at least OBE title.(Officer of the order of the British Empire).Good luck dear Sir.

Sri Lanka to give India a Sri Maha Bodhi sapling ~ Colombo Page

Sri Lanka to give India a Sri Maha Bodhi sapling

Wed, Apr 28, 2010, 09:26 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka is to gift a sapling of the most sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura to India to mark the 2600th anniversary of Buddha Jayanthi.

A ten-member Indian delegation backed by the Indian government has arrived in Anuradhapura to receive the sapling that is to be planted in the new Buddha Udyana being created in Patna.

The Indian delegation reportedly plans to brief the Sri Lankan government on their plans on Buddha Jayanthi celebrations.

According to the Mahavamsa, the Sri Maha Bodhi in Sri Lanka was planted in 288 BC, making it the oldest tree of any kind. It is said to be the Bo Tree under which the Gothama Buddha attained Enlightenment.

A sapling of Sri Maha Bodhi has also been planted in the Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi.

Sri Lanka's main opposition coalition in last ditch attempt to retain DPF in the alliance

Thu, Apr 29, 2010, 09:22 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

UNF.jpg

Apr 29, Colombo: The main opposition coalition UNF led by the United National Party (UNP) is to hold a final discussion today (29) with one of its constituent parties, the Democratic People's Front (DPF) to resolve the crisis that has arisen over the UNP's National List appointments.

UNF Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, SLMC Leader Rauf Hakeem, and SLFP (M) Wing Leader Mangala Samaraweera are to attend the meeting with the DPF.

Discussions between the UNF leaders and DPF Colombo District parliamentarian Prabha Ganeshan held yesterday (28) in order to try to secure a National List slot for DPF Leader Mano Ganeshan had failed.

Former parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan, who contested the general election under the UNF ticket from the Kandy District, failed to secure a seat in parliament. The DPF secured only one seat through the UNF from the Colombo District.

However, the DPF is currently considering the option of acting independently in parliament after quitting the UNF following the issues over the UNP's failure to allocate a National List slot to the party.

The DPF has reportedly prepared a letter to be sent to the Acting Secretary General of Parliament of the party's decision to sit independently, in the event the final discussions with the UNF ends in failure.

ICC World Twenty20 2010

South Africa v Sri Lanka, World Twenty20 warm-up, Bridgetown

South Africa squeeze past Sri Lanka
Cricinfo staff
April 28, 2010

A combined team effort set up victory with three balls to spare as South Africa brushed past Sri Lanka in their first warm-up match ahead of the World Twenty20. A late fightback from Sanath Jayasuriya and Chamara Kapugedera allowed Sri Lanka to post a modest 137 for 8 and the match was finely balanced when AB de Villiers was dismissed in the 14th over with 63 still needed, but a 61-run partnership between Mark Boucher and Johan Botha took South Africa home in the final over.

Kumar Sangakkara opted to bat first after winning the toss but was quickly left ruing the decision as Tillakaratne Dilshan fell first ball to the impressive Rory Kleinveldt. Charl Langeveldt then struck twice in his second over to remove Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene as Sri Lanka slipped to 22 for 3.

Dinesh Chandimal lasted just two balls before he hit Morne Morkel to Herschelle Gibbs, and when Angelo Mathews was dismissed by Roelof van der Merwe Sri Lanka were in deep trouble at 42 for 5 in the ninth over. But Jayasuriya drew on his vast experience in a relatively sedate 33 from 41 balls as he dominated a half-century stand with Kapugedera to claw his side back into the game.

Once he was dismissed, caught behind off Kleinveldt, Kapugedera came to the fore, slamming three fours and five sixes to finish unbeaten on 61. The wickets were shared around by the South African bowlers, with Kleinveldt, Langeveldt and Morkel taking two each, while Rusty Theron and van der Merwe weighed in with one apiece.

Nuwan Kulasekara removed Graeme Smith in his first over for single figures as Sri Lanka started their defence strongly, but Loots Bosman kept the score ticking over with a rapid 20. After his dismissal, Gibbs and de Villiers struggled to reach the boundary, and when they were removed in consecutive overs Sri Lanka were right back in the match.

But Botha and Boucher set about their task with gusto, scoring at more than 11 runs an over to take South Africa to the brink. Botha was bowled by Thissara Perera off the first ball of the final over, but Boucher sealed the confidence-boosting result with a boundary two balls later.
