The UNP has charged that Sri Lanka is facing an economic crisis as a result of the of mismanagement of the present government. Gampaha district UNP MP Ruwan Wijewardene, who topped the district’s preferential votes’ list at the general elections, told a news conference that the government is not in a position even to present the annual budget as a result.
“The government has to spend a lot of money in debt servicing. They have obtained loans from the HSBC. There are a lot of expenses involved in the hedging deal. Therefore, we feel that the country is driven towards an economic crisis. People will feel the pinch in another four to five months time,” he said.
