Rights of women in Islam

See the difference is I don't consider my wife as my property. So I don't go around ordering stuff. She never gets a chance to disobey.


You see, we don't really need to go further in the discussion. We all know that women are not physically strong enough. That's why this question about equal rights came in the first place. If people were not different we don't need to talk about it. That's why there are laws. To give the equal rights.

What you are saying is
(1)Husband has the right to beat his wife and refuse sex
(2)Wife does not have the same rights.

In conclusion Islam does not give women equal rights. Thank you. It is clear. I think the idea of the tread is met here.

If you want to beat your wife or whatever and if your wife is stupid enough to tolerate such behavior, that is your own business. But don't say Islam treats women equally. Clearly it does not. I learn things about it everyday. Thanks.

Thats ok friend. I just wanted to know the ideas of muslims on rights of women. You just proved they do not have equal rights.
you know its really funny that you say I'm foolish. When you can't even see that my argument is concrete.

Men have rights. Women do not have those rights. Therefor women do not have equal rights. Is there anything hard to grasp here?

a very nice debate.......without any unnecessary arguments that you see normally which diverts the debate at the end.......the thread starter has directed it according to the point.....two people from the opposite side have joined to answer...but i personally don't see that they have answered satisfactorily to the points which the thread starter has made.....i'm sure any non-muslim here,after reading this obviously will think that the islamic women have less rights,since she has to under go the beating by her husband but can't give any punishment in return,,,but a muslim on the other hand,will say that the thread starter didn't want to accept what those two muslims said above....the behavior of muslims will be quite normal because muslims are not allowed to have doubts about their religion......so they will always think others as the foolish person....

i like to see more of these type of debates with the muslims.......because they are very hard to find......

I don't see the need of a seperate thread to discuss this. So I'm gonna give some of my ideas here.

I have read the things in the link provided, with an open mind. I assure you I did.

Thank you for the link, it provides details about women rights in Islam.

Now I invite you to think of what I have to say with an open mind.

Zakir Naik says in the article 'Islam believes in equality of men and women – ‘Equality’ does not mean ‘identicality’.

So even Zakir Naik does not believe in equal rights. Instead he plays a word game saying we believe in equal rights, but what we mean by equal, is not same(identical) rights, but something else.

So if you were also talking about something else like Zakir Naik, then fine we can just agree that Islam does not give women the same rights. Instead men get something better. That was my point anyway.

Then can you see he deliberately ignore the later part of the Quran 3:34?

He says
"And its mentioned in Surah Nisa, Ch. 4, Verse No.34 which says, ‘The men are the protectors and maintainers of the women, for God has given one of them more strength than the other and they give them their means’. "

Where's the part about beating women and refusing sex? Why does he not talk about it? Simply because it will contradict the whole thing.

Again it is simple. Islam does not give the same(identical or equal) rights to women.

By the way here's the definition of the word 'identical' from Oxford online dictionary because it seems like Zakir Naik is a fan of word games.

The article you have provided is about "Rights of women in Islam".i.e What they can do, what they can't do and what they get.In an article about 'equal rights of women in Islam', it should focus on comparing the rights of men and women, and argue how the exact things are given to both. Not just how both are punished the same way if they commit a murder, but how they are treated equally(same way) in everything.
