Thats coz they come with a DATA Plan. When You buy the iPhone for $100 or something, it comes with a AT&T or some other Network pre configured and that contract will be around 2 years or something, so eventually you will pay the rest of the phone price along with the contract ammount.
the iPhone that you buy for the abouve price cant be used with other Networks. For that you have to JAILBREAK the iphone, rather useless as you do have to pay the monthly ammount with the original subscriber.
If ya dont wont the iPhone then the cost will rise to $500+.
Its simply like Dialog and Etisalat giving the Blackberry for Rs. 4000
You have to pay the rest in the coming years
