Movie Rating convention is 6/7/8/9/10 out of 10.
If u know a little more detail than that then 6.5,7.5,8.5,9.5/10 can be used .I normally adhere to second method.

millions of IMDB users had rate 1000s of movies 7,8,9,10 /10

10 for a masterpiece
9.5 for a near masterpiece
9 exceptional script,cinematography,direction,acting ect
8.5 less than that
8 good
7.5 not bad
7 average
6, 5 bad

"masterpiece" for me means a piece of work that can bear up to repeated viewings and still provide depth ,insights, newness, affection ,every time i c it and its personal.
