Nokia N8 can make Normal Screen Touchscreen
Nokia's latest smartphone, and probably the best phone launched by Nokia till now - the Nokia N8, has many surprises in its pocket. Wondering what I am talking about? As many of you might know that Nokia N8 comes with a HDMI port through which you can connect your phone to the HDTV. Benefit of this function? Well you can see the HD videos you shot on camera on the television.
The function is pretty good, but Beijing's Nokia Research Center (NRC) has been trying to get more out of this function and they have successfully managed to do so. Researchers at the NRC have created a 34 KB application, which makes any normal HDTV screen in to a touchscreen. The application is still being developed, and currently supports click and vertical scrolling gesture.
Nokia Official Blog reports that this NRC project is important as the researchers are trying to figure out how to take the touchscreen experience away from touchscreen. Check out the video below to see for yourself how this technology works. Basically, the gestures are recognized by Nokia N8’s camera.
The researcher in the video from NRC says that, "As they see more development in augment reality and even 3D UI, we are studying how to leverage the sensor from the camera to track gestures so we can interact with the content. Imagine interacting with 3D UI in the air like in the Iron Man movie!" Well it will definitely be cool if we can see something like that in the near future.
This technology was showcased in Nokia World 2010, where Nokia C6-01, Nokia E7 and Nokia C7 were showcased along with Nokia N8. Don’t forget to check out the video below.
