AFTER questioning socialite Paris Hilton for a second day, immigration authorities have denied the American heiress entry to Japan.

The 29-year-old was widely expected to be refused entry as a result of her previous drug offenses in the US - something that would typically cause would-be visitors to be denied entry clearance to Japan, which has strict anti-drug regulations.

The 29-year-old hotel empire heiress flew into Tokyo's Narita International Airport from Las Vegas on Tuesday for a promotional event, just one day after pleading guilty to cocaine-related charges in Sin City for which she received a suspended one-year jail sentence, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service and an order to complete a rehab program.

But after learning that she would not be allowed to enter the country, she prepared to return to the US

"About to take off. Going home now. So dissappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo," she tweeted.

Hilton, whose fame is due both to her famous family and the release of a sex tape by a former lover in 2003, was due to appear with her 26-year-old sister Nicky Hilton at the start of an Asian tour to promote her new fashion range.

Earlier this year, Paris Hilton was arrested in South Africa after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup soccer game on suspicion of possession of marijuana, but the case was dropped.

In 2007, she spent 23 days in a Los Angeles county jail for violating probation over an alcohol-related reckless driving conviction.
