Problem :
In many Sri Lankan house holds the phrase "Watching TV can ruin your eyes" is said by many parents to their children. And so did my parents.

Truth :
There is no such thing. Long term TV watching can cause eye stress and a bad headache.. in medical science there is no such thing and no evidence to prove that watching TV causes loss of sight.

Why?
So why does this happen? Sri Lanka is suffering from what is known as Vitamin A deficiency which is causes loss of eye sight in many children and is sometimes irreversible... now if you ask WHY this lie was made up... it is stop children from wasting no much time on TV... Doctors also break their code and lie to many children to discourage the watching of TV... we know to trick our children too much...

What causes it?
Simple... rice... rice lacks Vitamin A... and most children do not get a balanced diet of Vitamin A... rice is a cause for many things. And this is just one. But we cannot also rule out inheritances.... which is family genetic make up issues which cause irregularities in eye balls... But most of the time it is because of lack of Vitamin A for Sri Lankan's

How to prevent it?
Spend money... buy GOOD vegetables (no those cheap Rs. 100 bags meant for pigs)... eat a balanced diet... which is a bit hard to do with Sri Lankan children these days ;) may be a chocolate after lunch for a good boy? :P

Really? I heard watching tv soo close to the unit is bad. I mean you have to watch tv atleast 10 feet away. & for CTR monitors the same thing. Something to do with the brightness.

If the above said were true half of USA would be blind by the 1990's (fact that people were glued to CRT monitors 8 hours a day)

This was actually true for old day TV... but it was not to avoid eye sight problems... but to avoid radiation exposure... new CRT's ground the tube... their for no radiation exposure unless you open the TV/Monitor up.
