Several cracks in the earth were reported from Kuchchaveli , Trincomalee last night and this morning, the Seismic Activities & Tsunami Alert Centre (SATAC) told Daily Mirror online
Field officers are conducting the relevant experiments to determine the reason for these crack, although it is suspected be normal behavior due to the layer of clay in the ground SATAC officials added.
Meanwhile Disaster Management Center officials in the area added that the public were being cordon off from the area with the assistance of the Army and Police while the cracks were being scientifically investigated and that it did not pose any danger to the public.
Further they added that sand like substance had oozed out from the cracks and that it too will be investigated and identified.
