it's a french movie about a 4 year old girl whose mother dies and how she deals with it..for the entire time, for the mst of it, the camera follows the little girl showing us her world and her beliefs. it's nice to see the world again from the eyes of a child at least for half an hour..it's not really a movie about death and grieving, but about learning to deal with such losses. and when you are a kid, you own the whole world and everything just finds a way into your heart magically..it's really a heart wrenching film though.

and can really a four year old act this well? wow...and how in the hell the director get the kids to do it lol ..

i was expecting a sports/drama but there wasn't much boxing in it :P very good drama though. didn't like it much until the last 1/2 an hour.. that psycho jerk suspecting his wife thing went on too long for my liking :dull:
overall good film. but this competing as sports film with MDB no chance :P

closely watched trains...should thank nuwanoo for the suggestion..

it had some genuinely hilarious moments and exquisite photography ..and apparently some political over tone ..it was a good comedy with some very unique elements that ive never seen in a movie before ..

it cheered me up anyway lol was having the blues, but now feels perfectly nice.

it is little hard to watch this movie , for me.
not that movie is bad .
    it's a good one.
and gets better and better towards the end
and ends giving me a strange feeling like, freedom + sad+loneliness
    may be I'm too emotional..

it's not a accurate depiction of sri lankan people so i can understand all the hate, but the isolation, loneliness and distant to eachother that is apparent in this movie is applicable to every human being..it's characters are detached from eachother and the society and like somebody else had ssaid indifferent to their own misery, that indifference may have been rendered by years of suffering and dehumanization.

you can't expect a plot that makes sense here..the director don't give a chance to audience. he just portrays the lives of a miserable world by paintings...if you ever will see it, don't pay attention to the plot or try to get the meanings..cos i don't think you could.

it was really good for a debut and a good attempt at arthouse cinema, but nudity and sex felt unnecessary at times. and director is clearly influenced by the great Tarkowsky.

influenced I say :P I don't understand why everybody's saying that this tried to smear the image of sri lankan army and the director was a tool of foreign power and bla bla bla . .it was only an expression of art. and the violence about which we hear on media in sri lanka everyday, surpasses the violence the army commits in this movie. but aren't we a narrow minded nation anyway..

and nice to see mahendra and soumya liyanage smoking a joint

I just posted my first IMDB comment lol hope it will be approved lolz

people live in misery but they seem to have failed to realize it, or
they may have realized it but the fact that they haven't been able
to do anything about it, may have rendered them utterly indifferent to
their tragedies (like somebody already has pointed out) ..they are
detached from the fellow human beings and they are absolutely lonely,
and nobody seem to understand anybody and also nobody seem to expect
any understanding from anybody else...the movie, masterfully crafted
and acted, depicts a world where everybody is living among each other
yet unable to connect to each other except for very quick senseless
pleasures..but the movie also make a sense of humanity still
apparent in those characters. Isn't it the tragedy of entire human
society, not only in Sri Lanka ..that we are detached from each
other..that we over-look our own miseries let alone of others..

the desert like desolate landscape, the sound of the dry wind and the lack of life on the land, add up to the atmosphere of the
lives of these people, and the absence of a score for most of it also
works fine with the mood. only complain I have is that the nudity in
this felt mostly unnecessary. and the plot, well if there was one, felt
all scattered. I don't think the director was trying to convey some
specific message but his idea was to depict a society we live in today
on screen as to his own mindset at which I believe he's succeeded.

I'm quite aware of the stir this caused for it's portrayal of SL army
but how anybody see this as a movie about war is totally beyond me. by
the time the movie came out, we, Sri lankans, couldn't think of
anything without it having nothing to do with the war, it was a force
that influenced our lives and the social elements, for me, the presence
of soldiers in this movie, is merely a metaphor for what sort of a role the war had played in our lives.

and it's really nice to see this sorta artistic movies coming out of
sri lanka...this is the only time in years that I deviated from my
usual movie track of European or Hollywood cinema to have a look at
what my own nation has to offer..and surely i was not disappointed. I
urge every sri lankan to see this movie for what it is and keep in mind
that its not a statement about war, but an artistic expression of an
    individual about our lives.
