I think its worth the price.
I'm using an Aspire since 2008. Using it 24/7 and no problems at all.

No idea on that. However installing XP on a i5 makes no sense as XP cannot use all 5 cores.
Its possible that these were specially ordered for some company/institute/event but now they are not buying so Metro is selling them.

I dont know about this model.
Mine is an Aspire 4520 and its good. No problems at all since I bought it in 2008. Its switched on all the time and I've had no failures with the screen or battery or anything else up to now.
Based on my own laptop and other Acer laptops I've worked with, Acers are good durable laptops. Do note that this is my opinion based on my experiences.
