NEW SPIDER MAN MOVIE GETS AN "AMAZING" TITLE

Sony Pictures announced today that its new Spider-Man movie — directed by Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) and starring The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and the heroic web-slinger — will be titled The Amazing Spider-Man. The official moniker is an obvious hat-tip to the title of the 1963 comic book that launched the Marvel superhero, and could help further differentiate the feature film project from the much-maligned Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. And it’s probably better than Amazing Fantasy, the 1962 anthology title where Spidey first appeared.
Sony also released the first official photo of Garfield in his full Spider-Man costume, making clear that — like in the comics (but unlike in the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies) — this version of Peter Parker did indeed invent his web-slingers. Check out the photo below:

An official photo has been released of Andrew Garfield’s complete costume in the Spider-Man reboot, which is now titled ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’
    amazing-spider-man-header.jpg

Sony Pictures released the first image of Andrew Garfield in costume (sans his mask) for the Spider-Man reboot, now officially titled The Amazing Spider-Man, just over a month ago. Sony has released another photo now, that offers a better look at the webslinger’s new duds in full – one that also comes with a more professional sheen (and is not the handiwork of devoted onlookers).
This new pic additionally provides a straightforward glance at Spidey’s artificial web shooters - but not so much his glistening silver foot gear (for that, check out the set photos and pics from the reboot’s Los Angeles shoot).Director Marc Webb is currently right in the middle of principal photography on The Amazing Spider-Man, but that hasn’t prevented anxious fans from eagerly lapping up every amateur photo or video taken of the production. Whether it’s images of Garfield and Emma Stone as, respectively, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy getting comfortable on the bleachers, or the blonde-haired gal attending a rainy funeral, the sheer number of pictures demonstrates just how much interest there is for the comic book flick.

So here at last is a complete look at the new and improved Spider-Man outfit in action – with headgear and all:

Spidey’s non-spandex suit arguably looks more practical, yet stylish, than even Tobey Maguire’s costume did back in director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. It has a very polished design overall, and although it may seem a bit too bright and colorful with the proper amount of exposure, the red and blue material looks to mesh well with the shadowy backdrop in this photo. Plus, and not to sound like a broken record, everything will look a lot darker when the film is viewed in 3D.
Check out an up close and personal view of Spidey’s mask and web shooters below:

Executive producer Avi Arad says that ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ will not be a complete reboot of the comic book franchise. But what does that mean for Marc Webb’s film?
    The-Amazing-Spider-Man-not-a-complete-reboot.jpg

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be returning to theaters next year, with a new look and different actor (Andrew Garfield). So it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear that The Amazing Spider-Man might not be the complete overhaul of the franchise that we’ve come to expect.
Executive producer Avi Arad is saying that director Marc Webb’s upcoming take on Spidey won’t go the route of previous comic book reboots like Batman Begins and (to a lesser degree) The Incredible Hulk by essentially ignoring the existence of its predecessors.

Arad spoke to EW recently and informed the magazine that Amazing Spider-Man “won’t erase what came before, but will try to weave a narrative that could take place within the framework of the earlier films.” To quote the producer directly:
“It’s not a comeback. You have to look at it this way: Do you want to know more about Spider-Man? This movie is going to tell stories that you didn’t see in movies 1, 2, and 3.”
It’s known that classic Spider-Man universe players like Daily Bugle head J. Jonah Jameson and Mary Jane Watson simply won’t be featured at all in The Amazing Spider-Man, and Webb’s film is expected, in part, to return to Peter Parker’s days as an awkward high schooler who’s just beginning his struggle to get the whole superhero act down pat.
There’s also the matter of Uncle Ben being alive again (for now), the artificial webshooters, and Peter looking to have met Gwen Stacy long before his university days (a la Spider-Man 3) – so it’s difficult to immediately see how the movie won’t simply be pushing the restart button on the series.
    Andrew-Garfield-and-Emma-Stone-in-The-Amazing-Spider-man.jpg
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone on the set of 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

The most straightforward explanation for Arad’s comments is that Amazing Spider-Man won’t do anything that completely violates the canon of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Essentially that would mean that Ben’s life is still forfeit, Gwen won’t suffer any sort of horrific death at the hands of Spidey’s adversaries (Emma Stone already confirmed that), and although Peter’s parents are in the movie, they will appear via flashback, having died long before his days of being a costumed defender of justice.
Contrast that with how Christopher Nolan reworked the history of Batman in his films versus those directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher – the identity of the man who murdered Bruce Wayne’s parents, the origin of The Joker, Harvey Dent’s transformation into Two-Face, etc. Events that transpire in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight not only re-envision plot points from previous films, they often flat out change them.
Think Mcfly Think has proposed that Amazing Spider-Man could imitate the “Untold Tales of Spider-Man” comic book series in the way they resembled Stan Lee’s original comics, by essentially paying homage to the style of Raimi’s trilogy and taking place within its continuity. While that idea doesn’t entirely gel with the claims that Webb’s movie will be much grittier in tone than Spider-Man 1-3, it’s possible that the reboot will not be as drastic a departure in overall style (dialogue, action, character development, and all that jazz) as some might have originally anticipated.

Fans by and large were highly receptive to Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, and even the much-maligned Spider-Man 3 isn’t as widely despised as, to use an appropriate example, Batman & Robin. That further differentiates the current state of the webslinger’s franchise versus that of the Caped Crusader’s before Nolan arrived on the scene. Perhaps Amazing Spider-Man won’t feel like it should have been titled Spider-Man Begins and will, instead, feel more like a refreshing new spin on the character’s history. We’ll see.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ hasn’t even finished filming, but Sony has already asked screenwriter James Vanderbilt to begin working on a script for the sequel.

The cast and crew of Sony’s Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, are getting ready to wrap up filming in Los Angeles next month and I can’t think of another recent comic book movie that’s given fans such an unrestricted peek behind the curtain of production.

New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ set pics show star Andrew Garfield suited up to film a scene from Marc Webb’s upcoming 3D reboot. Check out how Garfield looks in the Spidey suit.
    Amazing-Spiderman-Set-Pics-Andrew-Garfield-Costume.jpg

Filming is already underway on Marc Webb’s Spider-Man (quasi) reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, and since production began, we’ve seen a plethora of set images leaked to Internet, depicting everything from the details of Spidey’s new costume, to some of the action sequences in the movie, to scenes of the new Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) getting tender in one of the film’s teen angst moments.
Today brings a new batch of Amazing Spider-Man set pics, in which we see star Andrew Garfield on set, suiting up as Spidey for a scene that (looks to be) more comedic than action-packed.

From what little we know about Amazing Spider-Man the movie will be somewhat grittier with its action, while also trying to nail the wit and humor that has made Spider-Man such a favorite amongst comic book fans over the years. We know that the film will return Peter Parker to a high school setting, that his foe will be The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans) and that The Lizard will not be the only villain that Spidey has to deal with.
There are some positive early indicators that the character of Spidey will be honored in a truer fashion than Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films did – there’s also just as much worry that Webb was selected to direct this film because his work on 500 Days of Summer made him an ideal director to capture the teen angst and romance aspect of the Spider-Man saga. Needless to say, fanboys do NOT want see “Spider-Man: The Twilight Version.”
Regardless of all the questions and speculation, these new set pics seem to depict a scene in which Spidey runs afoul of the law, or otherwise gets himself in some kind of awkward position. Have a look at the photos, courtesy of SuperHeroHype, below:

That last pic in particular provides yet another clear shot of how the eyes on Spidey’s costume are different than Raimi’s films, and how the now-mechanical web-shooters look. I’m sure fanboys will have a lot more to say about both topics (more than they already have said, if you can believe it

    ).
    Amazing-Spider-Man-Set-Pics-Eyes-Web-Shooters.jpg

I can only imagine what’s going on in the film to make Spidey throw his arms up in surrender, but hopefully it’s something funny (as I suspect it is) and not just some random shot from the set of Garfield doing stretches or something lame like that. There’s so much comedic gold to be mined from the idea of a masked kid in red and blue tights running around New York climbing all over stuff. Hopefully Amazing Spider-Man will nail that humor (as originally presented in the comics) and focus less on puberty-themed gags like “premature webification,” as seen in Raimi’s first Spidey flick.
Garfield has seen his Hollywood star rise high in the last year, and I for one am excited to see what he brings to the role of Peter Parker. He’s definitely an actor who can pull off the funny nerd persona and the dramatic actor persona; if he can do action (as far as required before a stuntman steps in), he may well overshadow Toby Maguire’s short-lived legacy as the wall-crawler. We’ll see.
