    is idleassetsd still running? if yes, san you disable it ? I had the same issue, which had eaten up 100+ GB, so I just selected a static wallpaper ( not any Apple provided wallpaper, I just downloaded it from the internet) and it worked try rebooting the mac as a last option ...

    Change the wallpaper to a static image and make sure leave the screensaver as blank ( or nothing selected)
