It wasn't the JVP alone but their coalition with NPP that won them the election. People eventually believed the NPP had 'professionals' and voted. JVP in itself wouldn't ever win any election for their history of destruction.
Why didn't they take over when GR offered anyone the chance? If they took over, what policy would they have taken, a 'leftist marxist policy'? Would they have gone to the IMF which they were totally against (even when GR tried during his time)? How did CB Governor suddenly turn a 'good boy' when they got power?
