Named Leopardus tilcayo, the new cat looks not unlike a leopard that shrank to the size of a house kitten. Named Leopardus tilcayo, after the word by which locals referred to it, the cat weighs roughly five pounds, is spotted with a slender body and has a light brown coat patterned with dark rosettes.

There are many theories why cats respond to this sound. In any case cats have one of the broadest hearing ranges among mammals around 48 Hz to 85 kHz. Analysis suggests that cats evolved extended high-frequency hearing without sacrifice of low-frequency hearing.
The 'ssss' or the variant 'pspsps' is high frequency and they respond.

(The highest are moths up to 300 kHz adapted to escape the predator bats. Some bats can detect up to 200kHz but they are less sensitive to < 10 kHz)
