Now it seemed that Solar Generation by household is bad or jealous of they exporting during day time without storage and receiving night time electicity demand. . So obvious option is to remove duty to storage batteries (at the moment cost of 5kwh battery double the cost of 5kwh solar installation without storage). Large component of cost is Tax. This Tax reduction will in return help SL wo lower its cost of Fuel which is largest.
Next option is to reduction of Units to EV charging during off peak- day time so that excess generation will be stored in EV batteries and this is win win situation. There are many more solutions than spreading hatred against solar panel owners as if they are the culprits. Govt should be thankful for solar generation as it had addressed day time demand . It is simply lack of direction just to blame solar installations and stopped net metering and net accounting. Shows how intellectually bankrupt nation . (Eg India is also facing the same problem though they are Economically more stronger than us to deal such situation) There are global funds for such energy efficient projects , too. We were able to tap these funds before Mafia led electricity business took over. After completion of Mahaweli we had excess hydro power . We did not even complete Maduru Oya Power Station from its reservoir !
It is not lack of options but lack of vision and corruption and inefficiency which is the bane of SL
You hit the nail!. That's what the government must do!
If the problem is day time solar energy had a surplus than the actual demand, replace net accounting and net metering tarrifs with net plus will not solve the technical problem. By doing this they covert this to a unbankable and not feasible solution and demotivate the target audience of middle and upper middle residentials and SMEs.
Is this a sensible and stratergic government and energy regulataries need to do that had a target with reduce the elctricity bill the lowest in the region? Solar is the most cheap energy source with minimum operational cost. By demotivating this we had to by electricity from diesel power plants near 85 rupees per kwh we also need to pay capasity charges to them because they a standing by to procude energy when NSO request. But with moderm technology BESS could this thing 5 times faster than a diesel plant. So then the government need to focus for BESS and not its slovely begins.
When BESS comes, the day time solar supply will not affected to the grid and available a new scape for another energy source and we could add more solar, If we do it with a battery their is no more enrgy surplus in day time and we could use the stored energy in night time.
When importing batteries (Less Than 1MWh - This catogaries could import batteries under bonded warehouse facility and they wont pay a peny as taxes) we had to pay neer 46% taxes. 20% Duty , 6% PAL, 18% VAT 6% CESS and 2.5% SSCL. The government could easily remove the 20% duty component and just with this we could reduce the residential hybrid energy system by 150,000 - 300,000 depends with battery capasity.
So with this we could easily compete with future energy demand increase with low cost and no need to depends with expensive diesel energy. Thats the pain point to the relevant persons.
