Cars don't stop if Start/Stop is pressed while at speed. Only if it's already stopped and at rest, the Parking brake is engaged and the engine stops. Also it will do this if the speed is low, say less than 5 kmph.
Above this it shifts to the N and you need to apply brakes yourself to stop. Some cars might give you a beep and display a warning message to keep the start button pressed holding for an emergency engine stop. Even the the car keeps moving forward.

PS: Just engage the Reverse when you are driving... nothing happens. Just ignored or shifts N. (I am not talking about manual shift cars)

How Sensor and Automation Failures Lead to Accidents in Aircrafts

    • False Readings: A broken or blocked sensor sends incorrect data—such as a false reading that the plane is stalling—to flight computers. [2, 3, 4]
    • Automated Over Correction: In fly-by-wire or automated systems, the computer overrides pilot inputs to "fix" the perceived danger, such as forcefully pushing the aircraft's nose down. [1, 2, 3]
    • Cascading Confusion: Loss of reliable instruments (like Air Data Inertial Reference Units) forces crews to fly blind or struggle against automated stabilization logic. [5, 6]

Notable Incidents Involving Sensor and System Anomalies

    • Lion Air Flight 610 & Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302: Faulty Angle of Attack (AoA) sensors triggered the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) on Boeing 737 MAX jets, repeatedly forcing the planes into fatal dives. [1]
    • Air France Flight 447: Iced-over pitot tubes provided contradictory airspeed data, confusing the air data system and leading the crew into an aerodynamic stall. [6, 7]
    • Qantas Flight 72: An Air Data Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU) sent erroneous data spikes to the fly-by-wire system, causing the Airbus A330 to pitch down violently on its own. [6, 7, 8]

පහල තියෙන්නේ Cars වල major Recalls, Sensor Failures වලට, Chinese ඒවානම් Recall වත් කරනවද මන්ද

Several massive automotive recalls have centered around electronic "by-wire" systems and sensor malfunctions. Because these systems replace mechanical backups with electronics, a single software or component bug can result in widespread safety interventions.
Directly below are the most significant recalls in recent automotive history involving these technologies:

    1. The BMW Global Brake-by-Wire Recall (1.5 Million Vehicles)

    • The Issue: BMW initiated a massive global recall impacting flagship models like the BMW 5-Series, 7-Series, Rolls-Royce Spectre, and Mini Cooper. The cars utilize an integrated brake-by-wire (IBS) system. Due to a factory manufacturing defect by supplier Continental—where dust and smudges corrupted the electronic circuit boards—the system's electronic signals suffered interference. [1, 2]
    • The Danger: The "power braking" assistance feature could abruptly fail. While manual mechanical braking remained, drivers had to apply extreme physical force to bring the heavy vehicles to a stop, significantly increasing crash risks. [1, 3]

    2. Nissan Rogue Throttle Body Gear Recall (319,000 Vehicles)

    • The Issue: Nissan recalled nearly 319,000 Rogue SUVs (2023–2025 models) equipped with 3-cylinder VC-Turbo engines due to a failure point in the electronic throttle body housing.
    • The Danger: Internal gears within the drive-by-wire throttle assembly were prone to fracturing. When these electronic throttle gears broke, the vehicle lost the ability to transition signals into engine forward or reverse drive, causing sudden power loss on highways.

    3. The Toyota Unintended Acceleration Crisis (10 Million Vehicles)

    • The Issue: The most infamous drive-by-wire controversy involved the massive global recall of Toyota and Lexus vehicles following high-speed, fatal crashes attributed to sudden unintended acceleration.
    • The Danger: While federal investigations by NHTSA and NASA officially blamed mechanical pedal entrapment (floor mats) and sticky physical pedal mechanisms, subsequent independent software code audits used in civil lawsuits found severe lack of safety redundancies and memory corruption vulnerabilities in Toyota’s Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) source code. [4, 5, 6, 7]

Comparison of Major Electronic System Recalls

Manufacturer & ModelsSystem AffectedPrimary System DefectConsequences
BMW, Rolls-Royce, Mini (1.5M vehicles)Brake-by-WireContaminated electronic circuit board pathsLoss of brake-assist; requires massive manual foot pressure to stop
Nissan Rogue (2023–2025) (319,000 vehicles)Throttle-by-WireInternal electronic throttle body gear fracturingSudden loss of propulsion/drive power mid-travel
Toyota / Lexus (~10M vehicles global)Throttle-by-WireSticky pedal sensors / Uncontrolled engine software logicSudden unintended acceleration and inability to override throttle
