there is a software called "ERD Commander" try to download and write it to a CD,it's a bootable cd, and it consists of live OS..this will work, i have used it many times.. good luck brother...

HITACHI

Had a Hitachi 80GB hard disk , used about 1.5 years, suddenly the circuit burned but could not see the burn marks even, as I know this is a common issue in Hitachi hard disks, go for a Samsung hard disk as it is better for hard use.
