    first off, backup your xorg.conf shouldnt the driver be "nv" isntead of "nvidia" in this section : change to also comment out/remove this part : messing with hsync and vsync is a good way to blow your monitor. what's your monitor and what the resolutions it supports and whats it's hsync...

    Goes to show that Linux is not for everyone. BTW trying Debian stock kernel on new hardware is NOT recommended unless you're ready to hack with the scripts and kernel. Debian is know to give Stable platforms but their strict policies means they dont have the latest versions but the sure as hell...

    no need to start i in CLI mode. You can give the parameters at boot time.

    Then you need to give the correct parameters to the x.org (xserver) config to work with your video hardware..

    back to the main topic : I not much of an Ubuntu fan I would prefer if Dell made Debian to be their choice of Linux or simply support all linux version by offering the main board and peripheral whitepapers for free so that all linux disro maintainers can create the drivers for their distro
